Both commercial fans draw 300W. The 2.4m moves 2,600 cubic metres a minute; this one moves 3,300, and covers 210m² against 140m². The price difference is $40. On any measure of air moved per watt or per dollar, the 3m wins comfortably, and it is the size most function rooms, halls and larger alfresco areas should be looking at.

The reason is geometry rather than a better motor. Swept area grows with the square of the diameter, so 2.4m to 3m adds roughly 56% more disc for the blades to work with. The fan then turns much more slowly, 105 rpm against 160, and still shifts considerably more air. Bigger and slower wins, which is the same principle that runs through the whole HVLS range.

What you give up

Felt breeze directly underneath. The 2.4m delivers air at up to 4.5 metres per second where this one manages 3.5, so a person sitting under the 2.4m feels more moving air even though the room as a whole gets less. If you are cooling a handful of tables in a courtyard, that matters and the smaller fan may be the better answer.

You also need the ceiling space for a 3 metre sweep, clear of light fittings, ducting, a projector or a bulkhead. In a room with a lot going on above head height, the 2.4m fits where the 3m does not.

IP55, and quiet enough to run in front of people

The motor is sealed against dust and water jets, which is what makes this usable in an alfresco area, a covered walkway, a wash-down kitchen or a stable rather than only in a dry indoor room. Common questions

Why is this barely more expensive than the 2.4m?
Because it uses the same 300W motor and the same blade material, just more of it. $40 more buys 27% more airflow and 50% more coverage. Unless your ceiling cannot take a 3 metre sweep or you specifically want the stronger breeze of the smaller fan, this is the better buy.
Will one cool a 200m² function room?
On paper yes, at 210m² of rated coverage. In practice a room with a stage, a bar or a low bulkhead is not open floor, so two fans placed either side of the obstruction usually work better than one in the middle. Send a floor plan and we will lay it out.
Does it run in reverse for winter?
Yes. At low speed in reverse it pushes warm air back down off the ceiling instead of letting it sit up there, which is worth having in a hall or a high-ceilinged venue that is expensive to heat.

A fan for spaces with people in them

Everything in our industrial range needs a roof of at least 3 metres and is built for pallets and process heat. This one is built for a room with customers or students in it, and it hangs from a ceiling as low as 2.5 metres, which is where most cafes, function rooms and covered courtyards actually sit.

Six aluminium-magnesium alloy blades move 2,600 cubic metres a minute across 140m² on 300W, which is less than a desktop computer. At 38dB it is quiet enough that conversation at the next table is unaffected, and quiet enough that a hall still hears the person at the microphone.

The strongest felt breeze of the two sizes

This is the counter-intuitive part, and it is the reason to choose the 2.4m over the larger 3m. The 2.4m turns faster, up to 160 rpm against 105, and delivers air at up to 4.5 metres per second where the 3m manages 3.5. So although the 3m moves more total air, the 2.4m produces a noticeably stronger breeze in the space directly under it.

In a small alfresco area or a narrow room, that is what you want: air you can feel at the table. In a wide function room you want the 3m’s coverage instead. The two fans are not a good and better version of each other, they do different jobs.

IP55, which is the real reason to buy a commercial fan

The motor is sealed and rated against dust and against water jetted from any direction. In practice that covers alfresco dining under a roof, covered walkways, commercial kitchens that get hosed down, stables and undercover wash bays. A domestic fan of similar diameter in any of those places becomes a maintenance problem within a season.

One fan instead of three

At 7.3m across, this is the fan you specify when a building is too big to solve in pieces. It covers up to 1,500m² of open floor from one mounting point, which is roughly three 4.3m fans worth of floor, on one circuit, with one controller and one point of maintenance. In a clear-span distribution centre or a large sports hall that arithmetic usually decides it.

Six blades turn at 15 to 55 rpm, the slowest range in the whole range, and that is deliberate. A larger disc moving slowly produces a deeper, more coherent column of air than a smaller one spinning hard, so the air arrives at floor level still moving rather than breaking up on the way down, and then spreads outward well beyond the fan’s own diameter.

It needs height to work

This is the one specification not to compromise on. The 7.3m is rated for mounting 5 to 12m off the floor, and it performs best from about 8m. Below 5m the column has nowhere to develop, the fan feels draughty directly underneath and does nothing at the walls. If your roof is lower, the 5m or 6.1m is the better fan, not a smaller budget.

Is 7.3m too big for my building?

The fan for a genuinely tall building

There is one specification that makes this fan interesting, and it is not the diameter. The 6.7m is rated to mount up to 14 metres off the floor on the manufacturer’s figures. If your roof is above 12m, this is the fan we quote first.

That covers a surprising number of buildings: high-bay distribution centres, aircraft hangars, cold-store envelopes, tall manufacturing halls, and anywhere a mezzanine has pushed the usable roof line up. In all of them the alternative is mounting a fan on a long extension rod, which brings its own problems.

Nearly the biggest, and often the better choice

At 6.7m it sits between the 6.1m and the 7.3m: 12,000 cubic metres a minute across 1,300m², from the same 1100W motor all three share. So the practical decision between it and the 7.3m is rarely about airflow, which differs by about 8%. It is about mounting height, and about whether an extra 0.6m of sweep fits between your sprinklers.

Six aerofoil blades run at 15 to 60 rpm. That is slower than the 6.1m and faster than the 7.3m, which puts it in a comfortable middle: enough speed to drive a column down from a high mount, slow enough to stay at 38dB.

My roof is 13m. What are my options?
This fan, or a smaller one on a long extension rod. The 6.7m is the only size rated to mount that high, so it is the straightforward answer. Send the roof height and frame type and we will confirm the rod length.
Does a fan that high still reach the floor?

Where this range changes gear

The 6.1m is not simply the next size after the 5m. It is where the design changes: six blades instead of five, a heavier motor assembly, 103kg against 49kg, and a minimum mounting height that jumps from 3.6m to 5m. Coverage doubles in the same step, from 500m² to 1,000m².

That makes it the first fan in the range aimed at genuinely large buildings rather than large rooms. One fan covering 1,000m² of clear floor is the point at which a multi-fan layout starts collapsing into a single unit, with one controller, one circuit and one thing to maintain.

Slower, and that is the design

11,500 cubic metres a minute at 15 to 65 rpm. Compare that with the 5m: 15% more air from a fan turning at little more than half the speed. The sixth blade is what makes it work, giving the fan more surface to push with so it can move a bigger volume gently instead of a smaller one hard.

The practical effect underneath is a broad, even movement of air rather than a draught you can point to. In an occupied building that difference matters as much as the airflow figure, and it is still 38dB.

Why does this jump to six blades?
More blade surface lets a larger fan move more air at a lower speed. It runs at 15 to 65 rpm where the 5m runs at 20 to 80, and still moves 15% more air. Slower and broader is more comfortable to stand under and no louder.
My roof is 4.5m. Can I still have it?
Not this size. The rated minimum is 5m and below that the fan cannot develop its air column, so it underperforms a smaller fan installed correctly. At 4.5m the 5m fan is the largest that suits, and it will do a better job.
One 6.1m or two 5m fans?
For a clear span, one 6.1m: same coverage, one circuit, one controller, less to maintain. For a floor split by racking or a dividing wall, two 5m fans placed by section will beat one large fan trying to reach past an obstruction.

The 4.3m and the 5m use the same 750W motor. The 4.3m moves 7,000 cubic metres a minute; the 5m moves 10,000. That is 43% more air for the same power draw and $100 more on the price, and it is the single most useful comparison in this whole range.

The reason is geometry rather than a better motor. Swept area grows with the square of the diameter, so going from 4.3m to 5m adds about 35% more disc for the blades to work with. The fan then turns more slowly, 20 to 80 rpm against 20 to 90, and still shifts considerably more air. Bigger and slower wins almost every time in this category.

Where the extra 0.7 metres costs you

Two things. The minimum mounting height rises from 3m to 3.6m, so buildings between 3 and 3.6m are ruled out and need the 4.3m or the 3.7m instead. And the sweep is 0.7m wider, which matters when you are threading a fan between sprinkler heads, lighting runs and a mezzanine edge.

The 4.3m sits in the middle of our HVLS range and is the fan most small warehouses and machinery sheds end up choosing. It clears 450m² of open floor from a single mounting point, which usually means one fan where you would otherwise hang six or eight high-speed drum fans and still have hot corners.

Five aerofoil blades turn between 20 and 90 rpm. At the top of that range the fan pushes a column of air down to the floor and out along it, so the moving air reaches people at working height rather than swirling near the roof. The perceived temperature drop is typically 3 to 6 degrees, and because it is air movement rather than refrigeration, it keeps working with the roller doors open.

The fan for buildings that are not that tall

Roof height, not floor area, is what rules most buildings out of a big fan. The 3.7m is rated to mount from 3m, the lowest in the range, which makes it the only HVLS option for a lot of two-bay sheds, older workshops and single-storey units where the underside of the roof sits at 3.5 or 4 metres.

Within that limit it does real work: 5,000 cubic metres of air a minute across 380m² of floor. That is a two-car workshop, a small production room or a studio covered by one fan, replacing the three or four pedestal fans that were doing the job badly.

The lowest running cost in the range

370W at full speed, which is half what the 4.3m draws and a third of the largest sizes. Five aerofoil blades turn between 20 and 100 rpm, the widest speed range of any fan here, so it can be wound right down for winter destratification and still have plenty in reserve on a hot afternoon.

Uplight the trees a normal solar spot cannot reach

A garden changes the moment the light comes up from below. A warm beam into the trunk of a gum, a wash across a planted bed, a fence line picked out in soft light, and the space gains depth and a focal point it never had in daylight. This kit gives you six of those beams to place wherever you want them, with no wiring to run and no power point to find.

Six heads to shape the whole garden

Each of the six spot heads sits on a ground spike and tilts on an adjustable head, so you can aim light straight up a trunk, across a garden bed or along a path. Gather three or four on a single feature tree, or spread all six across the yard. The solar panel is separate, on its own spike and its own cable, and that is the part that matters under trees: the heads sit in the shade where you want the light, while the panel goes out in the open where the sun falls. Most solar spots build the panel into the light itself, so they only work in full sun. This one does not.

Each head is at its brightest across the first 2 to 3 metres, which is where a trunk, a rendered wall or a planted bed really lifts. Aim one further out and it still reaches, up to around 10 metres. These are lights for picking out the things worth looking at, not for flooding the whole yard.

Built for Australian weather

The heads are die-cast aluminium and ABS in a matte black finish that settles quietly into a garden bed by day. They are rated IP65, sealed against rain and hose spray, and the separate panel is rated IP44 for its spot in the open. The kit carries a 12-month warranty, and if anything goes wrong you reach a real person here in Australia.

Honest solar, with two levels of light

A full day of sun, around 8 hours, gives you roughly 6 to 9 hours of light after dark. Cloudy days charge less, so you get less. That is simply how solar works, and it is worth knowing before you buy. The kit comes on by itself once the light drops, and a button sets it to a bright high mode or a softer low mode that runs longer into the night. No app, no timer, nothing to wire.

How hard is it to set up?

There is no wiring and no electrician. Each head pushes into a garden bed on its spike, or screws to a wall or post with the included bracket, so you can light beds, fences and walls from the one kit. Stand the solar panel on its spike in the sunniest spot nearby, angle each head where you want the light, and that is the job. The spikes go in by hand; wall mounting takes a screwdriver.

How bright is it?

What if a light stops working?

Every kit is covered by a 12-month warranty, and if a head ever fails or fades you reach a real person here in Australia who will sort it out, not a silent overseas inbox. Solar lights work hard outdoors, and we would rather back them properly than hope you never need us.

Will it suit my space?

There is roughly 3m of cable between each head, so a single kit reaches across a garden bed, along a fence line or around a small tree cluster. If you are not sure it will reach, send us a rough measurement and we will tell you before you order.

What happens on cloudy days?

The panel charges less, so the lights run for less of the night. A run of overcast days will show. This is true of every solar light, and we would rather say so than pretend otherwise. If your spot gets limited sun, place the separate panel in the best light you have; that is exactly what it is designed for.

Does it pair with the fairy light tree kit?

It does, and it is one of our favourite combinations. Uplight a tree from the ground with two or three of these heads, then wrap the canopy with one of our fairy light tree kits. The spots give you shape and shadow from below, the fairy lights add sparkle above, and a single tree becomes the feature of the whole garden.
